Experience
Two of the frequent comments we hear people say (even in the church) are:
“We all serve the same God”
and
“All roads lead to God.”
Whilst it’s understandable that people desire to have peace with their fellowman, any peace that is not rooted in the Truth will not last. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3).
One of the unpopular facts of Christianity is Jesus’ statement that only His way is right and all the other religions are false and cannot bring people to the place of true peace with God.
(See John 10:1-2; 7-9; John 14:6).
So, as Christians, who are called to love our neighbours as ourselves, we must go out with the wisdom of God to help people:-
(i) to see that they, (like us), should examine their beliefs to avoid being deceived and on the wrong side of God; and
(ii) to see the reason why we have made the choice to follow Christ, and show we have made that choice fairly. (See 2 Corinthians 13:5).
Since we live in a very multicultural part of Britain, we saw the benefit of reading and studying the religious texts / holy books from a number of different faiths such as the Muslim Qu’ran, the Hindu Bhagavad-Gita, the Sikh Guru Granth Sayib and, of course, the Jewish Tenach, which is the Old Testament.
Put together some ‘customised’ tracts containing two or three key matters that are handled differently in these religions from the Christian faith, that can be easily introduced during outreach. This often leads to follow up appointments for discussion.
Put together a study plan for a series of meetings with those who want to look at major differences between any particular faith and that of Christianity, with a view to establishing the Truth about God, with His help.
Training and Support
We hold informal workshops for small groups of Christians to share ideas on the following:-
- Tactfully approaching and engaging people of different cultures and religions to discuss the matter of ‘God’s Truth’.
- Explaining why seeking harmony / peace with all by ignoring differences in faith is not a good idea.
- How to prepare and carry out a basic comparative study with someone of a different religious background.
If you would like to know more about this please email us at SimplyChristian@mail.com to arrange to meet for an informal chat.
